NHL Player Safety Fines Kevin Shattenkirk Over Minor Infraction
Kevin Shattenkirk of the Boston Bruins got a slap on the wrist from the NHL for a minor infraction involving Michael Bunting of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The NHL decided to fine Kevin Shattenkirk of the Boston Bruins for his actions during their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"Boston's Kevin Shattenkirk has been fined $2,734.38, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct during last night's game against Pittsburgh."
During the game, Shattenkirk was seen on the Bruins bench exchanging words with Bunting as he skated past. Shattenkirk then lightly tapped Bunting on the hand with his stick. It's unclear if Bunting even felt it.
While it's against the rules for bench players to interact with those on the ice, Shattenkirk's move was pretty harmless. Bunting didn't react, raising doubts about whether he even noticed it.
Shattenkirk's action may have been in response to Bunting's earlier incident where he tripped the Bruins' goaltender. Despite the minor scuffle, Boston managed to clinch a 6-4 victory that night.
