The Chicago Blackhawks are facing a hefty penalty following their decision to terminate Corey Perry's contract earlier this year. Perry's grievance has been settled, resulting in a significant financial blow for the team.

Corey Perry's season has been a whirlwind of ups and downs. After the Blackhawks let him go under undisclosed circumstances, Perry found a new opportunity with the Edmonton Oilers, approved by the NHL Commissioner. This raised eyebrows and sparked questions about why his contract was terminated in the first place.
Now, it's been determined that the Blackhawks must pay out $3 million of Perry's original $4 million contract.
«Our understanding of Perry termination/grievance resolution is #Blackhawks were assessed $1.99M Cap Charge for period after termination.

On top of the $1.02M cap charge while with team, CHI total cap charge will be $3.01M of Perry's original $4M contract»
With the ruling made, it's unlikely that the details behind the termination will be made public. The decision will likely stay under wraps, leaving us unable to judge whether the Blackhawks' move was justified.
