Pavel Francouz's NHL journey, which started brightly at a later age, now faces an uncertain future following a tough injury setback.

At 33, Francouz has only six NHL seasons with the Colorado Avalanche under his belt. However, his 2023-24 season ended before it even began due to a significant lower-body injury.
Reports from Avalanche Insider Meghan Angley suggest that Francouz's injury could potentially spell the end of his playing career, with Avalanche executive Chris MacFarland likening the situation to retirement. Francouz is not currently planning to make a comeback to the ice.
Chris MacFarland described Pavel Francouz's situation as akin to retirement based on the nature/timing of his injury. Said he's not currently planning to ramp up to return to play.
Despite three solid seasons with a goals against average (GAA) under 2.65, Francouz's future with the Avalanche is now uncertain. The team had high hopes for him as a key part of their goaltending unit for the long term. However, Francouz's reluctance to return from his injury casts doubt on those plans.
Further updates are expected once there's an official announcement from Francouz or the Avalanche organization.
