Many Edmonton Oilers struggled in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, but now Ryan Whitney has specifically targeted Evander Kane for his poor performance.

Coming into a pivotal Game 3 in Florida, hopes were high for the Edmonton Oilers, but unfortunately in this one they were outmatched with their skill and physicality, losing 6-1 to now go into a must-win Game 4 to avoid the 3-1 series deficit.
After the game, Evander Kane especially called out the officials for the way they handled the game, noting that he believes the officials are letting the Panthers get away with more than Edmonton.
"They seem to get away with it more than we do. It's tough to find the line. They're doing just as much stuff as we are. There seems to be a little bit more attention on our group."

Following these comments, former Edmonton Oiler turned analyst Ryan Whitney blasted Kane and the Oilers for their belief that this game was on the officials, as they had every chance to win no matter what the calls were.
"Don't blame the refs. ... We lost that game because their special teams were better. They were better five-on-five. Their goalie was way better. The refs weren't great. They didn't lose us the game.

You cannot when you take penalties in the offensive zone, one of them on the power play, when you're 200 feet from your own goal. You cannot take stick penalties."
Given how important these games are, it's no surprise that every single call is going to be analyzed more and more, and while the officials may have not gotten everything right, Whitney makes it clear that this team had every chance to win despite that.
Now, Game 4 is upon us, and if the Oilers want to get back in this series, they have to ignore the officials and get back to their game, and while they came back from 3-0 to force a Game 7 in 2024, they won't want to go down 3-1 again this season.
