Insider Reveals Minnesota Wild Star Could Shatter Draisaitl's Salary Record With $15M Deal
Minnesota Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov could soon be making more money than Edmonton Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl on his next contract, per the latest reports from analyst Chris Johnston.
Kirill Kaprizov can already be considered arguably the best forward in the history of the Minnesota Wild, and it won't be long before he's up for a new deal.
Kaprizov's current contract, with an AAV (average annual value) of $9 million, expires next summer.
While speculation continues to build as to what kind of new contract he can expect, one NHL analyst believes that he could soon become the highest paid player in the NHL today.
Per analyst Chris Johnston, Kaprizov's next contract could see him earn more annually than Edmonton Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl, who is currently the top-paid player in the NHL with an AAV of $14 million.
I believe he'll get more than Leon Draisaitl. It wouldn't surprise me if [Kaprizov] becomes one of the last remaining guys to sign an eight-year deal at the top of the market.
There's always a chance things change, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't re-sign.
Kaprizov, who was taken 135th overall by the Wild in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, had 51 points (27G, 24A) in 55 games in his rookie year, and has gone on to be one of the best players in hockey since then.
But just like the rest of his Wild teammates, he's not been past the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
So far in his NHL career, Kaprizov has 386 points (185G, 201A) in 319 games.
