Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher, known for his exuberant play, pushed the limits during last night's game against the New York Islanders.

In the third period, as Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech advanced with the puck, Gallagher swiftly approached, delivering an elbow to the face.

Gallagher received a five-minute major and game misconduct for the elbow to the head, leading to Pelech's departure for assessment.

Islanders head coach Patrick Roy couldn't provide an update on Pelech's condition but acknowledged the league's likely review of the hit:
«I think we all saw what happened. I think the league's gonna review the hit. That's all I can say for now.»

Despite expectations of a substantial suspension due to Gallagher's history with the NHL Player Safety, it's now revealed that no lengthy suspension is in store.

Since Gallagher wasn't offered an in-person hearing, his suspension eligibility is limited to a maximum of five games.

Upon reviewing the hit, it's evident that it ticks the boxes for a blindside hit, contact to the head, and Gallagher leaving his feet. This raises questions about the decisions from the NHL's Department of Player Safety, headed by George Parros.
