Flyers Top Goalie Prospect Officially Has Contract Terminated
Philadelphia Flyers goaltending prospect Ivan Fedotov is currently navigating through an unusual situation.
After his contract with CSKA Moscow of the KHL was unexpectedly cut short, he became a free agent, yet his NHL rights are still held by the Flyers.
The saga began with Fedotov signing a $1.1 million deal with the Flyers, only to be sidetracked by compulsory military service in Russia, causing him to miss the entire previous season. His subsequent decision to sign with CSKA Moscow led to a breach of IIHF rules.
The IIHF has recently clarified the matter, stating that Fedotov is contractually bound to the Flyers for the 2023/2024 season.
In a bizarre twist of events, CSKA Moscow has terminated Ivan Fedotov's KHL contract.
The NHL rights to Fedotov (27) are still held by the #Flyers.
The Russian goalie had a .914 SV% and 2.37 GAA in 44 games with CSKA this season after returning from his military service.
Despite the legal complications, Fedotov's performance with CSKA Moscow last season was noteworthy, sparking discussions about his potential impact in professional hockey.
