Alex Nedeljkovic is looking to compete at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, but at this point, he hasn't received the call from Team USA.
The Pittsburgh Penguins struggled for much of the 2024/25 campaign, and those struggles extended to their goaltending as well, with no one truly taking the reigns as the No. 1 starter that could lead this team to a Stanley Cup Playoffs berth.
Unfortunately that goes for Alex Nedeljkovic as well, as the 29-year old veteran posted an .894 save percentage and a 3.12 GAA in 38 games played, although many believe he played better than those statistics would suggest.
It wasn't all bad for the veteran however, as he made history during a game this season, becoming the only goaltender in league history to tally both a goal and an assist in a game.
However, he wasn't able to take his game to another level, and when asked about potentially representing Team USA at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, he reveals that he hasn't yet been contacted about the opportunity.
«Yeah, I haven't been contacted or anything like that. It's always a privilege to represent your country at any level, so we'll see. The phone is open, but I haven't heard anything.»
He doesn't rule out the chance however, as he notes that his phone is ready to be answered if he gets the chance, and with other goaltenders like
Dustin Wolf,
Joey Daccord,
Casey DeSmith,
Jonathan Quick and others potentially available, we will wait and see if Nedeljkovic gets a call.
If he doesn't however, he'll look to use the summer to get into the best possible spot moving forward, as he has the chance to play a significant role for Pittsburgh again next season, and with the youth coming, he'll need to fight hard to keep his spot moving forward.
