Analysts Doubt Brad Marchand Will Retire in Florida - Could Penguins Be a Fit?
Brad Marchand signed a long-term deal with Florida this summer, but after suggestions he may retire elsewhere, the Penguins could become a fit.
At the 2025 trade deadline, Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers in one of the most shocking deals we've seen in recent NHL history, and then he went on to dominate the Stanley Cup Finals, helping the Panthers to their second straight Cup win.
In the off-season, there were suggestions that he could sign elsewhere in free agency, but instead, the 38-year old landed a six-year deal with the Panthers, taking him through until the age of 44.
Unsurprisingly, not many expect him to remain in the NHL throughout the length of that deal, with analyst Matthew Cauz suggesting on First Up that he will finish his career elsewhere.
"Brad is not finishing his career in Florida. No way he's going to finish in Anaheim. That's my prediction. Brad Marchand, Anaheim Duck, 2029. Count it."
Why Brad Marchand's Contract Could Open the Door for a Penguins Move
Marchand has long been linked to the Penguins given his relationship with fellow Nova Scotia native Sidney Crosby, and while both would be beyond 40 by the time this happens, this latest suggestion may give the team hopes of finally acquiring the star winger.
Ultimately, the Penguins could one day offer Marchand the chance to play alongside Crosby as well as giving him an opportunity to compete for a solid role on a team given his age, but as of right now, the veteran is focused on helping the Panthers compete for a Stanley Cup, with his future beyond that solidified for now.
