Analysts Shut Down Erik Karlsson Trade to Penguins Conference Rival

The Pittsburgh Penguins entered this summer with the expectation of being big sellers, but to this point, none of the rumoured veteran trades from General Manager Kyle Dubas have come to fruition.

One player that is still expected to be traded is veteran blue liner Erik Karlsson, who has two years left on his current deal, and while the market hasn't been robust, there has been plenty of speculation about interested teams.

Now, despite interest from the Red Wings, Kevin Allen of Detroit Hockey Now has pushed back on the speculation, stating that the team need to be harder to play against, and bringing in Karlsson's offensive game simply isn't the move to make.

On paper, adding a three-time Norris Trophy winner makes sense for any team, but as Karlsson ages, his defensive game has deteriorated, and in Detroit, they need stars, but balanced ones, and that's something that Karlsson simply can't deliver.

For now though, they are reportedly a team that remains interested in the veteran blue liner, and while Pittsburgh should be doing everything they can to offload him, according to Allen, it's not the move to make, so now we sit back and wait to see what Dubas does with his $11.5 million AAV veteran.
