Sportico says former Pittsburgh Penguins winger Bobby Farnham is now part of Carolina's new investor group, a strange Metro twist with teeth.

Tom Dundon sold 12.5 percent of the Hurricanes at a $2.66 billion valuation, and the three new minority owners were not named in the original report.
That is not a cap story, but it is a power story. More money around a contender usually means more runway for infrastructure, staffing, and long-game pressure.
Farnham matters here because Pittsburgh was his first NHL stop. He signed with the Penguins in 2013 and played 67 NHL games overall from 2014-17, putting up 8-2-10.
He was undrafted, turned pro after Brown, then later attended Harvard Business School and co-founded Fourth Line Capital. That background makes this more than a vanity headline.

Bobby Farnham now touches a rival contender

Penguins fans will smirk at the irony, because a former depth winger now has a seat near one of the club's biggest division problems.
Carolina is 41-17-6 and back on home ice Thursday against St. Louis, so this changes nothing for Rod Brind'Amour's lineup card tonight. It does matter for the machine behind the roster.
The hockey fit is simple. Carolina keeps winning with pace, waves of pressure, and a blue line that keeps the puck moving north, and stable ownership only helps that identity age well.
For Pittsburgh, the read is blunt. The Metro rival the Penguins keep chasing is not getting smaller off the ice, and that matters before the draft, free agency, and the next swing at the deadline.
Farnham once fought for inches in a Penguins sweater. Now he is backing the standard Pittsburgh still has to catch.
