Dan Muse backs starting Stuart Skinner vs. the Flames as the Pittsburgh Penguins chase points.

Muse didn't tiptoe around it when asked about the crease. He basically said the «hot hand» earned the front end of the back to back.
That matters because a rotation only works when both goalies feel trusted. The second you override it, you're telling the room that results are louder than the plan.
Muse also slipped in the key detail, Skinner's record coming off the break. That's coach speak for rhythm, confidence, and giving the group a calm start.
Stuart Skinner is 27, and he's been around enough now to understand what a «you earned it» start really is. He was a 2017 third round pick, 78th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers, and that development path usually builds thick skin.
The Penguins are betting that one strong outing sets the tone for two games, not just one. It's a small coaching move that can swing a week if the team in front of him stays connected.

Dan Muse trusts Stuart Skinner in net

If you're a Penguins fan, you can almost feel the anxiety and the hope fighting in the same breath right now.
This decision also protects the skaters a bit. When the goalie is settled early, the blue line can hold gaps instead of sagging back and chasing.
Muse praising both guys is important too. That's the reminder that the rotation isn't dead, it's just flexible when someone forces the issue.
Skinner has shown he can carry a load before. In his 50 game rookie run, he led rookies in wins with 29 and posted a .914 save percentage, and that's the kind of resume coaches lean on in tight spots.
The real test is what comes after the first start. If he's sharp, the room buys in fast, and if he's average, the debate gets loud again.
Either way, this is Muse planting a flag before the schedule squeezes them, and the next result is going to steer the entire conversation.
