This evening, the Pittsburgh Penguins in a new statement have sent well wishes and provided an update on former GM Craig Patrick after a recent health scare.

The Penguins in 2025-26 are in great hands under the leadership of Kyle Dubas who has been with the team as the GM over the past two seasons.
Before Dubas, the Penguins most recent success was spearheaded by Craig Patrick a legendary hockey mind who was able to bring key pieces such as Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Marc-Andre Fleury to Pittsburgh during his tenure.
Unfortunately, Patrick was not able to see the success of what he built as he left the organization after the 2005-2006 season.
This evening, reports have confirmed that Patrick, now a scout with the Penguins, recently suffered a stroke in late December and has been on the road to recovery ever since.
Legendary Penguins GM Craig Patrick has been in the hospital for more than a month after suffering a serious stroke. His old players and the Penguins organization are rallying around him.
In response to this news, the hockey community has come together to support Craig Patrick and his family and reminisce on his impact on the Penguins.

Craig has been in acute care and recovery for the past month and is expected to return home next week to begin the therapy and rehabilitation process. The entire Penguins organization, both past and present, extend their love and support to the Patrick family.

In addition, Captain Sidney Crosby spoke about his former GM and credited him for helping a young Crosby adjust to the league.
I have a really good relationship with him. He was so good to me when I was 18. I was so young, getting a lot of attention. And he was so patient, so understanding of what it was like. He was helpful to me in many ways.

After the announcement was made regarding Patrick’s condition, the hockey community as a whole came together to support him and his family.
Patrick, 79, has spent the last 40 years in professional hockey impacting the lives and development of some of the biggest and most notable players to ever play the game.
We wish Craig Patrick and his family all of the best as he continues to recover and get back to full health over the next weeks and months.
