The Penguins are in a rebuild, but after the latest on Kaprisov and Eichel from Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco, Kyle Dubas may have a shot to land them after all.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are clearly moving towards a rebuild, and at this point they've started well, acquiring plenty of future assets and young players that could be key for the future of the organization.
However, with
Sidney Crosby still leading the way, the chance for the team to add elite level talent via free agency has not been ruled out yet, and now, the likelihood of that is improving.
In his recent report,
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff has revealed that the chances that both Kirill Kaprizov and Jack Eichel re-signing with their respective teams before free agency isn't quite the slam dunk it was once seen as.
I don't think it's a slam dunk that the likes of Jack Eichel and Kirill Kaprizov re-sign with the Vegas Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild, respectively.
While Di Marco doesn't give a prediction on whether or not both or either of them will re-sign with their current teams, the fact that it's no longer a guarantee should excite teams around the NHL.
That has ever so slightly opened the door for General Manager Kyle Dubas to pounce, as Eichel could be the long-term replacement for Sidney Crosby, while Kaprizov represents an elite winger to play alongside 87 for the rest of his career.
Ultimately, there's still a chance that both re-sign with their respective teams, and if they do get to free agency, Pittsburgh will have plenty of competition, but for now, they're both names to keep a close eye on for Penguins fans.
