Insider confirms the Penguins remain committed to a rebuild despite recent success on the ice

NHL analyst Chris Johnston confirms that even though the Pittsburgh Penguins have had a much better year than anyone would have guessed possible, GM Kyle Dubas still wants to get younger.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been far more competitive this year than anyone would have guessed possible, and they would make the playoffs if they began today.
That being said, per a new report from NHL analyst Chris Johnston, they're still looking to get younger.

There are multiple players on the wrong side of 30 years old that were heavily involved in trade rumours before the year began, including names like Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and Erik Karlsson.
There were even rumours involving the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin potentially being moved if Pittsburgh's season somehow came off the rails, but so far, that's not been the case.
What Are The Penguins Going To Do At The Trade Deadline?
The Penguins could potentially look to add to their roster if Dubas feels that this current team is capable of going on another Stanley Cup run.
But that doesn't change the fact that Dubas is apparently looking for his team to get younger, which could either mean trading away older pieces for younger assets, or trading away older pieces and promoting some younger pieces currently playing in the AHL.
The trade deadline this year is March 6, and plenty can happen to the Penguins in the standings between now and then.
