Marc-Andre Fleury retired after one final game with the Penguins this off-season, and now he's opened up on who convinced him to play in that pre-season farewell.

The Pittsburgh Penguins 2025/26 season is expected to be one full of struggles for the team, but in the pre-season, they found a way to truly make themselves must-see.
After his final NHL season last year, Marc-Andre Fleury announced he was coming out of retirement, but just for one game as he suited up against the Columbus Blue Jackets as a way to retire with the Penguins and get his farewell from the team.
When speaking in a recent interview he credited two specific individuals for convincing him to come back to the Penguins.

Fleury reveals who was responsible for his return and farewell

Now, a week after playing in his final game in the league with Pittsburgh, Fleury and his agent Allan Walsh were being interviewed, with Walsh revealing how this was all Kyle Dubas' idea.
This was all Kyle Dubas. He called me, and first it was, we, Pittsburgh Penguins wanna do something special with Marc. Then, a couple weeks later, Kyle called again, and this time he said; 'Hey, we were just talking in the office here and the fact that Marc went to World Championships and played for Team Canada, wouldn't it be amazing if he played in a pre-season game?'

On paper, it's the perfect way to farewell the three-time Stanley Cup Champion, but Fleury noted that he was hesitant at first, but ultimately, Max Talbot talked him into doing it.
I was a little reluctant because like I said, I didn't train or anything. And the other thing too, I feel like I've had 17 goodbyes that season you know? Too much attention, too many times waving the hand.

I talked to Max Talbot a little bit before too, and he was like 'Don't worry about all that, just go play with the boys!'
Ultimately, it was the perfect final farewell for Fleury, who had such an iconic career in Pittsburgh, and now, fans are eagerly anticipating his next role in hockey as it's unlikely he walks away from the game completely.
