Nick Bonino Opens Up On His Role As A First Time Coach With The Pittsburgh Penguins
This summer, the Penguins announced a new Head Coach in Dan Muse, and shortly after he brought in Nick Bonino, who has now revealed his role with the team.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have undergone some major changes in recent years, and early in the off-season they made the biggest change of all, moving on from Mike Sullivan after a decade behind the bench.
As a result, the team officially hired first-time Head Coach Dan Muse, and while the move was met with plenty of differing opinions, he did make one incredibly popular move for this coaching staff.
Immediately upon retirement, the team hired former Stanley Cup winner with the team Nick Bonino as an assistant coach, and now, he's opened up on what his role will be.
Assistant coach with him on the bench, I'll have the headset on speaking with Cluner (Rich Clune) upstairs, working with the centres, working on the penalty kill.
After that, Bonino stressed that Muse wants this coaching staff to be a committee where everyone helps everyone and works on everything, and given the experience that Bonino built up throughout his career, there is so much that he could teach to everyone on this team, especially the younger forwards.
This is Bonino's first coaching job in the National Hockey League, and it appears he's going to take on a significant role with the Penguins organization, but given his familiarity with the players and the franchise as a whole, this shows a great belief in the veteran to be able to take on all this, and if he thrives in the role, he's clearly got a very bright future ahead behind the bench.
