'Open to Playing One More Year': Evgeni Malkin Hints That He Wants to Be Traded by the Penguins

Last season, Brad Marchand left his long-time home in Boston after requesting a trade from the team, and clearly, it paid off as he was a key part of the Florida Panthers second straight Stanley Cup run.

Now, other veterans around the league are clearly paying attention, and that includes superstar forward Evgeni Malkin, whose future in Pittsburgh is up in the air following a stellar career with the team.

After returning for training camp ahead of the 2025/26 season, plenty of players answered some questions, but it was Malkin who raised the most eyebrows ahead of what may be his final season as a Penguin.

It was expected coming into this season that the team would allow him to play out the final year of his deal before moving into retirement or to another team, but his latest comments hint at something else.

According to Josh Yohe, Malkin has revealed he's open to playing beyond 2025/26, but that he also paid attention to what Brad Marchand did last season, noting quickly that his no-movement clause can easily be waived.

After over 20 years with the Penguins, no fan or person in the organization would blame Malkin if he wanted to move on from the team given their recent struggles, and now, this becomes a genuine story to keep an eye on heading into what may be a tough campaign in Pittsburgh.
