Pittsburgh made a huge move regarding their future, as they have called up Gabe Klassen to the AHL after an outstanding set of performances recently.

It's been a rough season for Pittsburgh to say the least, but there is some hope to come out of everything. We've seen Rutger McGroarty get a shot already, and while he's dealing with an injury currently, he's set to be a huge part of the new wave of Penguins to take the ice in the near future.
One of those who could be getting the call in that near future is Gabe Klassen, who after a series of standout games has earned a call-up to Wilkes-Barre Scranton to play with the Penguins.
Having just been named ECHL Player of the Week for his six-point outburst, it was clear that he not only earned his call-up, but gives Wilkes-Barre someone who can help them come playoff time.
This season with Wheeling, Klassen has 43 points in 65 games (19G, 24A) while also adding only 6 PIM and a plus-6 rating. Klassen signed a deal with Wilkes-Barre last year after five seasons with Portland of the WHL.
He spent five seasons with the Winterhawks, registering 265 points in 248 career games with the team including a blistering 106 points in 67 games last year (35G, 71A) leading to the Penguins snatching him up.
With the injury to McGroarty, who was expected to help the Pens in the playoffs, look for Klassen to get a good look, potentially with him being given some premium minutes against Hershey on Friday and Springfield on Saturday.
We won't know for certain whether or not Klassen will make a difference until he steps onto the ice, but the hype around him is real. Pittsburgh may have had a tough season at the NHL level but can look to see their future is bright with Klassen at the forefront of it all.
