The Penguins need help on their blue line, and with a logjam forming in Chicago, Frank Seravalli has linked them to a potential blockbuster move.

Despite having veterans like Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang on their defense, the Penguins blue line is arguably their weakest position group at this point in time, with the team likely looking to get younger at the position this off-season.
So far, we haven't seen any movement on a Karlsson trade despite the speculation, but now, rumours sparked by Frank Seravalli may interest General Manager Kyle Dubas and the Penguins.

Chicago's Surplus on Defense Could Spark Trade Market

Heading into the 2025 regular season, the Chicago Blackhawks have at least 8 players that can compete for a spot on their blue line, and with the team likely to lean towards the likes of Kevin Korchinski, Artyom Levshunov and Sam Rinzel, that opens up other players for availability.
That comes from Seravalli in his latest report, as he has revealed this surplus could lead to Kyle Davidson looking to move someone, with Dubas likely to take advantage of that.
I think the Blackhawks are probably looking at 9 to 10 legitimate, realistic NHL defensemen, and someone is gonna have to be on the move

Why Pittsburgh May Look to Shore Up Their Blue Line Depth

Currently, the Penguins blue line consists of journeymen who aren't going to be stars at the NHL level or players well past their prime, and as they wait for the likes of Harrison Brunicke and Bill Zonnon, getting a young, NHL ready player to continue the rebuild needs to be the move.
Whether it's Connor Murphy, Ethan Del Mastro or even someone like Alex Vlasic, the talent is there, and if the Penguins can put together a good enough offer, they should look to take advantage of the surplus and find their next key piece on the blue line.
