The Pittsburgh Penguins have been quiet this off-season, but now a shocking report has linked them to a trade with Montreal for retired goaltender Carey Price.

This week, Carey Price's contract changes for the Montreal Canadiens, with the team only needing to pay him a fraction of his salary overall, while his $10.5 million will still count against the salary cap.
That makes him the perfect trade candidate for a team that needs to get to the salary cap floor, with many expecting a simple deal that benefits both Montreal and the team acquiring him.

Why Pittsburgh Could Absorb Price's Deal for Future Flexibility

While he's mostly been linked to the Western Conference, according to Marco D'Amico, the Penguins are genuinely becoming a destination for Price, as they could absorb his deal to potentially take on some future draft assets.
Recently, it was revealed that Montreal were looking for another centre, and while the Penguins don't have much to offer in that department, taking on Price's contract could lead to bigger moves in Montreal.

How a Canadiens-Penguins Trade Could Spark Bigger Moves in Pittsburgh

This deal would benefit both teams, as it gets Pittsburgh to the cap floor, allowing them to trade Karlsson, Rakell and Rust without needing to worry about the cap floor, with Montreal likely to give up some key draft pieces to make it happen.
Whether or not this happens, only time will tell as San Jose, Anaheim and Chicago are all teams looking to get to the cap floor this season, but if Kyle Dubas can get the right future assets for the final year of Price's deal, it's a no-brainer.
