Penguins Make Surprise Starting Goalie Choice - Dan Muse Breaks Down the Decision

The Penguins have decided to start Arturs Silovs for tonight's game vs. the Rangers, and Dan Muse revealed they looked at a lot of things to make this choice.
The 23-year-old was summoned after dominating veteran
Tristan Jarry in the preseason, compiling a 2-1-0 record with a .904 save percentage and 2.55 goals-against average.
For fantasy purposes, the instability in the Penguins' crease places Silovs on the early high-risk, high-reward list.
Head coach Dan Muse explained the reasoning for deciding to begin the year with Silovs tonight.
"We looked at a lot of things. We are going to be looking for both guys to be getting in there at this early part of the season. So, Tristan will be getting an opportunity here early on, for sure. We feel Silovs had a good camp, and that was a decision that we made."

Tristan Jarry was Demoted to the AHL Twice Last Season
Jarry, on the other hand, wants to put the page aside following a tumultuous 2024-25 season where he was sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton twice.
His initial AHL call-up in October was initially presented as a conditioning stint, but his January recall came after an entire breakdown in form.
After surviving waivers and more than four weeks in the minors, Jarry eventually recovered after being recalled in March with an 8-4-2 record, .904 save percentage, 2.82 GAA, and two shutouts to finish out the season.
For the time being, Jarry will start the year sitting on the bench as Silovs gets an opportunity to demonstrate that he is something more than a temporary starter.
