NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that the Penguins are deep in net and could look to trade one of their goalies to help their team in a different position.

A key juncture in net is at hand for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Veteran presence is retained in Tristan Jarry, yet he faces rising pressure from newcomers in the form of offseason acquisition Arturs Silovs and promising prospects Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist.

What has recently led to long-term depth chart questions for the Penguins

This became further complicated by the injury to Jarry, who has not played since November 3. Murashov has been filling in admirably in his stead and has looked NHL-ready, raising very real questions about the long-term depth chart.
Though his return isn't far off, his future in Pittsburgh is less certain. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently mentioned the Penguins could be a team to watch on the goalie trade market.
"We were talking about teams who have goalies available. I got a note from someone who said you left out a team, and they said the Penguins. This person said to me, If you look at it, at its base, they've got Tristan Jarry, they've got Silovs, who's played very well for them. They've got Sergei Murashov, who's been up there while Jarry's hurt, and the fans love him and the organization likes him, he's a really talented young goalie and also they have Joel Blomqvist, who has also been injured for a while in the AHL, but was one of their top goalies last year so Pittsburgh has four guys."

Jarry, 30, is in year three of a five-year, $26.875 million deal, a contract that doesn't quite align with the organization's evolving timeline.
When healthy, Jarry was one of the best starters to begin the 2025-26 season and could be attractive to teams seeking stability in the net.

The two teams listed as fits for Tristan Jarry

The Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens jump out as potential fits, both having dealt with significant struggles at the position.
Whether a trade materializes soon remains to be seen. What does seem certain is that Murashov has emerged as the future in goal for Pittsburgh, leaving one of Jarry, Silovs, or Blomqvist as a potential trade chip for the right return.
The Penguins' crease is changing, and a big move could be in the cards.
