Penguins forward Rutger McGroarty has been diagnosed with a concussion and subsequently placed on injured reserve, as he will miss time.

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed rookie forward Rutger McGroarty on injured reserve on Wednesday following an injury suffered during practice in Cranberry on Tuesday.

What led to Rutger McGroarty suffering a concussion

McGroarty was hurt during a two-on-two drill when he collided with a teammate while battling for a loose puck. He immediately skated to the bench and was attended to by an athletic trainer while holding his head and neck.
At the time, the Penguins did not provide details regarding the nature or severity of the injury.
It has since been revealed that McGroarty has been diagnosed with a concussion, explaining the decision to move him to injured reserve. There is no timetable yet for his return as he continues to be evaluated.
"There is no timetable for his return at the moment."

Why this injury comes at a bad time for Rutger McGroarty

The injury interrupts what had been a steady stretch for the 20-year-old forward, who has appeared in 16 games this season.
McGroarty has recorded three points, including two goals and one assist, while averaging 12:13 of ice time. He has primarily skated on the left side of the Penguins' third line.
Earlier this season, McGroarty also dealt with an undisclosed injury just before training camp in September, which kept him on the injured non-roster list. He did not make his NHL debut until Dec. 1. We are wishing him a speedy recovery.
