Sidney Crosby's incredible gesture toward Martin St. Louis during the 2014 postseason has resurfaced and shown the true level of his sportsmanship, even at the height of playoff competition.

Even during the height of competition in the postseason, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby demonstrated that he's a classy person.

Crosby's Compassion Before Game 5 Still Resonates a Decade Later

For those who may not recall, the Pittsburgh Penguins were locked in a battle with the New York Rangers in the 2014 ECSF after they beat the Columbus Blue Jackets in Round 1.
During that series, Rangers forward Martin St. Louis tragically lost his mother. He returned home to Montreal to be with his family, but immediately returned to join his teammates for Game 5 of the series.
Before the game, cameras caught St. Louis warming up on an exercise bike when Crosby happened by. Crosby shook St. Louis's hand and had a brief conversation with him, likely offering his condolences for his loss.

St. Louis, a former forward with the Tampa Bay Lightning, was traded to the Rangers months prior.

How One Moment Cemented Crosby's Legacy Beyond the Ice

It was a gesture that Crosby didn't need to offer, but he did so nonetheless, even though he was going to be battling against St. Louis in playoff competition on the ice only a few hours later.
Despite the ongoing battle, it showed what kind of person Crosby is beneath his competitive exterior that fans see on the ice.
Not only is Crosby one of the greatest NHL players in League history, but he also showed that he's a top-notch human being as well.
