Sidney Crosby Nearing One of Mario Lemieux's Most Iconic Penguins Records
Penguins' Sidney Crosby is only 32 points away from passing Mario Lemieux for the most in franchise history, which he should have no problem doing this season.
But even as the team struggles, captain Sidney Crosby just continues to accumulate his phenomenal legacy.
Crosby helped
Rickard Rakell in the first period for No. 1,064 and assisted on the second-period tally by
Anthony Mantha. The Penguins could not maintain their lead, however, and lost 4-3 when Anaheim capitalized on a late power play.
Crosby's current benchmark also placed him ninth on the NHL all-time points list at 1,691. He's 16 assists short of Hall of Famer Adam Oates (1,079), who sits eighth on the list.
Sidney Crosby Will Likely Pass Dave Andreychuk in Goals and Mario Lemieux in Points This Season
At 626 goals, he sits a stone's throw from becoming 15th all-time in passing Dave Andreychuk (640) and is 32 points behind franchise legend Mario Lemieux for eighth in total points.
Lemieux accumulated 1,723 points during his playing years, and although Crosby has already broken his assist record, he is still 64 goals behind.
Assuming Crosby continues at the current pace, earning 91 points last season, Crosby will pass Lemieux as the Penguins' all-time point leader in the 2025-26 season.
Even in a season of inconsistency for his team, Crosby's quest for history never ends.
While the Penguins flail about trying to find their formula for victory, their captain continues to show the hockey world why his name should be put among the all-time greats of the sport.
