Top Penguins Goalie Prospect Sergei Murashov Makes Bold Statement on Rutger McGroarty

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending prospect Sergei Murashov is making waves in his inaugural North American season, recently establishing an AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins franchise record with his 11th consecutive win, per a team release.

A fourth-round draft choice back in 2022, Murashov began the year in the ECHL, where he played 26 games before receiving the call-up to the AHL.

Since he came over to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he's 11-0-0 in 11 starts with a save percentage cracking the .920s.

This stellar type of play is really not foreign to him, as before the call-up, he ended up setting the franchise mark with a 13-game winning streak for the Wheeling Nailers.

Despite being in his developmental years, his recent play shows that he's ready for an NHL opportunity, and he just needs the right moment to prove he can shine.

In addition to his on-ice play, Murashov has also made a positive impression off the ice.

While the 4 Nations Break had the Penguins' video staff visit Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he was generous in his praise for Rutger McGroarty, a fellow Penguins prospect, complimenting his work ethic and skill level.

Murashov's words prove the growing brotherhood among the prospects in Pittsburgh, which is an absolutely fantastic sign for the organization's future.

Murashov's play of late adds additional drama to the Pittsburgh goaltending crisis already made up of Jarry's crazy inconsistency, rollercoaster performances by Nedeljkovic, and prospect Joel Blomqvist.

Without a definitive answer in goal, general manager Kyle Dubas is going to be forced to mix and match and build a bridge to Murashov.
