The Maple Leafs and Penguins have made some great deals in recent times, and now, two potential salary cap dumps have emerged for the Penguins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins, even with
Sidney Crosby are clearly moving towards a rebuild in the coming years, and as a result, they may be looking to take on some salary in the summer for additional assets.
Unsurprisingly, there's going to be several names that could be moved this off-season as salary cap dumps, and two of those have now been identified with a very familiar team to the Penguins.
After making several deals with the Toronto Maple Leafs this past season, two Toronto veterans in
David Kampf and
Calle Jarnkrok have now been identified as potential salary cap dumps, leading many to link them both to the Penguins.
While they wouldn't be great pickups for Pittsburgh, with the team looking to add to an already huge haul of draft picks in the coming years, if Toronto are willing to sacrifice a late-round pick to move either, it's something that former Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas may need to take a look at.
This past season, both Kampf and Jarnkrok were staples in the Maple Leafs bottom-six, and while Pittsburgh have many players to fill roles down there, with the hopes of continuing to rebuild and wanting more draft picks to take shots on future stars, this may be a deal that Dubas could look at.
Ultimately, the Penguins future will be decided this summer, with the potential for the team to go into a full on rebuild or push towards the Stanley Cup Playoffs again, and if they move to acquire either Kampf or Jarnkrok, expect it to be the former.
