Sidney Crosby's future has been a hot topic in the NHL, and now, Elliotte Friedman and Nick Kypreos have revealed what needs to happen for him to be traded.
Over the past few months, so much has been said about the future of Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh, and while he's remained loyal to the team thus far, with the team missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for three straight years, it may come to a point where the long-time captain says enough is enough.
To this point though, he has denied any speculation about potentially requesting a trade, but that hasn't stopped the rumours, with the Olympics being noted as a key point in his future.
If the team are out of it after the Olympic break, it appears as though the belief is that a trade could happen, and that was a topic again brought up by Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman lately, with both agreeing that a trade could happen if the team appear to be out of post-season contention.
NK: I am now more in the belief that Sidney Crosby will be traded; if they're really bad, the likelihood he's traded after the Olympics grows.
EF: I've wondered about that; I completely agree with you; the only one thing people argue with me about is, he's such a creature of habit, do you want to trade him in-season?
While there's no guarantee one way or another that Crosby ends up getting dealt, momentum appears to be growing for a deal after the Olympics if the team struggle to improve upon their recent poor play.
Regardless of whether it's best for Crosby or not, seeing the long-time Penguins captain dealt would be a bitter pill to swallow for Penguins fans, but if it's what he wants, there's no doubting that he deserves the chance to compete for another Stanley Cup at this point in his career.
