The Penguins got some unfortunate news regarding Erik Karlsson at practice today, as he was unable to participate due to suffering from an illness.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson missed Monday's practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex due to an illness, the team reported.
Karlsson had limited ice time during Sunday's 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, where he logged a season-low 15:49 and spent part of the third period on the bench.
While no explanation was given at the time, his reported illness likely explains the reduced minutes we saw in the last game.

Erik Karlsson's status for tomorrow night's game vs. the Hurricanes

It remains unclear as to whether Karlsson will be available for Tuesday's home game against the Carolina Hurricanes, which is a key matchup for the Penguins as they look to maintain momentum and start climbing back up the standings.
During drills, Connor Clifton filled in alongside Parker Wotherspoon in Karlsson's usual spot. Coach Dan Muse is expected to provide updates following practice, and we will be sure to provide any new information to you.
All other anticipated players participated in Monday's practice session, with energy and intensity evident throughout the entire workout. Karlsson's health and recovery will be closely monitored over the next 24 hours to see if he can play tomorrow.

Why the Penguins also got some positive news at practice

Injured forwards Evgeni Malkin and Filip Hallander also skated before practice as part of their ongoing recovery, with both showing encouraging signs.
Their return could provide a significant boost to the Penguins' lineup as the team continues its push toward the playoffs and looks to turn around a horrendous December.
