Luc Poirier is a Quebec businessman with a deep interest in bringing back the Quebec Nordiques, a foundational team in the province's hockey culture.
In a new episode of the Stanley25 podcast, a bombshell was made about Poirier and his efforts to bring hockey back to the province. As the story goes, Poirier was offering the league hundreds of millions of dollars to the league with the sole purpose of bringing the team back to Quebec. However, he was ultimately told no.
Our good friends over at GoNordiques explained some of the businesses that Poirier involves himself in. Overall, he is involved in the world of real estate, as well as venture capital investing. The below is translated from French.
"In addition to his business, Luc Poirier is heavily involved in charitable activities. He is involved in several foundations such as the Bruny Surin Foundation and the Christian Vachon Foundation and he participates in events such as the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie. This commitment to the community is particularly close to his heart, as he remembers times in his youth when he himself needed help. Today, he devotes much of his time to giving back to those in need in the community.
At the end of the day, fans in Quebec are going to be very frustrated with this news. They have been trying to get their team back for decades, and the league has denied them at every single turn. It has to sting quite a bit.
