Utah HC Holds Open Contest for Hockey Analytics Enthusiasts, Offering Paid Internship

Are you passionate about hockey analytics? The NHL's newest team, Utah HC, is offering a unique opportunity to turn that passion into a paid position. The team has announced an open challenge where the winner will earn a paid internship for half of Utah's inaugural season in the National Hockey League.
Dubbed the "Summer Analytics Challenge," this contest is open to anyone in the United States and Canada who is interested in hockey analytics.
"We are excited to engage analytical minds through the Summer Analytics Challenge that provides the opportunity to become involved with our organization in a unique way," said Bill Armstrong, general manager of Utah Hockey Club. "We look forward to seeing the great creativity and ideas challenge participants submit."
To participate, entrants must choose a hockey topic of interest to study and analyze. Their findings should be compiled into a maximum five-page deliverable, including detailed analytics modeling. The submission deadline is Friday, August 23 at 5 P.M. MT.
"All applications will be reviewed by Utah's hockey operations staff with the most qualified submissions being invited to present their reports virtually to General Manager Bill Armstrong in early September."
Utah HC, formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes, will begin their first NHL season in 2024-25. The team was purchased for $1.2 billion by Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz, in April of this year.
This contest provides a rare opportunity for aspiring analysts to showcase their skills and potentially secure a position with an NHL team, making it an exciting prospect for those deeply interested in hockey analytics.
