A couple of seasons ago, Soderstrom played a total of 30 games. However, last season, he only managed to play in three games. Overall, he is moving backward. That said, the Utah Hockey Club has been trying to sign the defenseman to a new contract. Unfortunately for them, Soderstrom wants to remain in the NHL, but with another team.
For now, there is no market for Soderstrom which means Utah HC can't get a good enough return on him. This is putting the kibosh on a potential deal, and now Soderstrom is looking abroad.
According to reports, Brynas IF of the Swedish Hockey League is looking to bring back Soderstrom. Brynas is where he played prior to the NHL, so it is a move that makes sense. If Soderstrom cannot find work with his old team, then it is believed that he would be willing to go to a team in the Swiss Elite League.
Only time will tell whether or not Soderstrom gets what he wants. As for the Utah Hockey Club, this could be a bad omen for what is to come. If this season in Salt Lake City doesn't go well, the entire franchise could be in big trouble.
