The Vancouver Canucks appear to be actively selling forward Ilya Mikheyev and may run into cap space this summer while trying to re-sign several pending UFAs.

Ilya Mikheyev was made available to teams around the March trade deadline by the Vancouver Canucks, who are reportedly trying to transfer him, according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

According to Seravalli, the Canucks will not be able to sign further free agents until they have a better understanding of their salary cap position.

"The Canucks have been working to move Mikheyev since shortly after their playoff run concluded. They also offered him to teams around the trade deadline. After a tough playoff, Mikheyev's contract is gumming up the works on Vancouver's offseason. They can't more aggressively pursue multiple pending free agents (Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, Filip Hronek) until they can get clearer view of their cap picture." Seravalli said.

According to Seravalli, other teams are requesting assets from Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks in trade negotiations so they may acquire Ilya Mikheyev's contract. As the weeks pass, the Canucks may decide to swap an asset for Mikheyev. As of right now, they are not interested in doing so. With two years left on his deal and a $4.75 million cap cost, the 29-year-old is still under contract.

Finding a team to pay Mikheyev's entire salary will be difficult for the Canucks, but in order to clear cap space, Patrik Allvin might be forced to trade for some asset, like a third-round selection, in order to advance the Russian forward.
