Western Conference contender interested in signing Patrick Kane
The Vegas Golden Knights are reportedly interested in a short term contact with Patrick Kane when free agency opens in a few weeks.
On Monday, July 1st, Patrick Kane will become an unrestricted free agent. Vegas, one of the Western Conference's more successful teams in recent years, is among the teams that the future Hall of Famer may choose to play for.
In a recent article on their website, Jason Pothier of SinBin Vegas explored the possibility and noted that Kane's reliability combined with the Golden Knights' requirement for a top-six forward and assistance on the powerplay could make the two teams an ideal fit when the free agent market opens on July 1.
The Golden Knights were 3-for-12 (25%) on the powerplay during their first round series against the Dallas Stars,
according to StatMuse, which isn't terrible, but at the most important time of the year, teams hope to be over 30% if they want to go on a deep run. Patrick Kane can be someone on the free agent market that has the ability to spark a powerplay, whether that be by setting up a play or lighting the lamp.
Despite his apparent recovery from hip resurfacing surgery in June of last season, Kane's injury problems over the past few seasons should raise some concerns. In 50 games for the Red Wings, he finished with 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists), 16 penalty minutes, and a minus-five rating.
We'll have to wait and see what Patrick Kane's future holds, but it wouldn't be shocking to see him sign a contract with the Vegas Golden Knights when the market opens on Canada Day at Noon ET.
