Just in from hockey insider Chris Johnston, the Washington Capitals will be without defenseman Ethan Bear for an undetermined period as he enters the NHL's Player Assistance Program.
The 26-year-old defenseman, who signed with the Capitals in December 2023 after recovering from double hip surgery, has suited up for only 24 games this season. Despite being sidelined for the team's last seven games, Bear has shown his value on the ice, notching one goal and totaling four points when he has played.
Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, the Saskatchewan native established himself as a reliable depth defender during his three seasons with the Oilers, earning positive reviews for his play. In 2021, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in a deal for Warren Foegele.
Everyone will be rooting for his successful recovery while he's in the Player Assistance Program. It's heartening to see players utilizing this vital support system.
