Washington Capitals Make Beautiful Gesture in Honour of Mike Lange Against the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have had a rough season as their retool seems to turn into a rebuild.

Unfortunately, the sad aspects of the team extend beyond the ice as well as they have just been hit with a tragedy.

The team's former play-by-play announcer of 30 years Mike Lange sadly passed away this week.

This afternoon was the first time the team played at home since the news broke, and as such, the organization put together a special tribute that they played on the jumbotron ahead of the game.

The Penguins were not the only ones to honor Lange during the game though.

The team is facing their hated rivals in the Washington Capitals, but the Eastern Conference leaders showed a lot of class coming into this one.

Each of the players is wearing a helmet with a special sticker on it with a microphone and 'Mike Lange' inscribed on it, in honor of the Penguins legend.

Similarly, the team made a post to social media showcasing the helmets and giving Lange his dues, while sending their condolences to the Penguins organization.

The Penguins and Capitals are headed in different directions this season with Ovechkin looking to break the all-time goal scoring record en route to his second career Stanley Cup while Sidney Crosby and the Penguins look for some luck in the upcoming draft lottery.

Luckily, Crosby did lead Team Canada to a championship at the Four Nations faceoff so at least he has that going for him this season, but it does seem like he will have to settle for just three Stanley Cups unless he agrees to a trade before his career is over.
