Winnipeg Jets Issue Statement After Heartbreaking News on Mark Scheifele

The Winnipeg Jets face a must-win game on Saturday night in Dallas against the Stars, but on Saturday morning, we learned of a much bigger story going on with the Jets.

In tragic news, it was revealed that Mark Scheifele's father passed away over night, with the veteran's status for the game not confirmed as he goes through the emotions of such devastating, heartbreaking news.

Upon this news becoming public, the Jets got in front of it and sent their condolences to long-time star Scheifele, who has become a key member of not only the Jets organization but the city of Winnipeg as well, with so many tributes and thoughts & prayers pouring in to the veteran.

The players that had gotten to know Brad Scheifele were just as devastated, with nothing but kind words to say about something that clearly meant a lot to the locker room as they continued their outpouring of support for their veteran star teammate.

It was announced that Scheifele will play in Game 6, but this is a story that's clearly much bigger than hockey, so we continue to send our condolences out to Mark Scheifele, his family, friends and teammates, and anyone that got to know his father during his tenure in Winnipeg, and hope that they can find strength during an incredibly tough time.
