Capitals prospect Cole Hutson opens up about frightening injury that forced him to leave game on a stretcher
Washington Capitals prospect defenseman Cole Hutson was hurt in a scary scene after taking a shot to the head, and he said that he not only was knocked out cold but also had difficulty regaining feeling in his body.
It was a scary scene during Saturday night's game against Switzerland for Team USA in the World Junior Championship, as top defenseman Cole Hutson, a prospect for the Washington Capitals, was hurt when he was hit with a shot.
Hutson, who is the brother of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson, was strapped to a backboard and stretchered off the ice.
He recently disclosed that he had difficulty regaining feeling in his body while speaking to teammate Cole Eiserman.
I regained consciousness as I was kind of wheeling off the ice (on the stretcher). I was laying down for like....it felt like forever. But I know it's probably like two or three minutes, and U.S. forward Cole Eiserman was telling me like, 'Grab my hand'. And I was like, 'Dude, I can't move my body'. So he grabbed my hand and had a little bit of feeling and but I couldn't really move my body until I was getting wheeled off the ice. - Cole Hutson

Before his injury, Hutson had two assists and averaged just under 19 minutes per game.
He would describe the incident that took place late last month as "terrible" and not something he would wish on anyone else.
It was terrible. You don't want that to happen to anyone. I just got knocked out cold and woke up and for a few minutes, I couldn't move anything on my body, so it's never a good feeling when you wake up after you get knocked out so I was obviously terrified and just praying that I was healthy again. - Cole Hutson
Hutson was taken by the Capitals with the 43rd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
