29-year-old forward hits waivers again by Pittsburgh Penguins' conference rival
The Toronto Maple Leafs have waived 29-year-old forward Sammy Blais, not long after he was already waived this season by the Montreal Canadiens.
In the eight games Blais has played in this year, he has scored just one goal and added two assists for a total of three points, while sporting a lowly -2 rating.
Sammy Blais has been bouncing around on waivers quite a bit
Blais was also claimed off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 6 after signing a one-year deal as a free agent.
Why Sammy Blais has quite the championship pedigree
A sixth-round pick (176th overall) by St. Louis back in 2014, Blais played a key part in helping the Blues win the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2019.
Last season, he helped the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks capture the Calder Cup championship. He had 14 goals and 40 points in 51 games last season with AHL Abbotsford, truly proving he can play when the pressure is on.
Internationally, he helped Team Canada win gold at the 2023 World Championships, where he scored six goals and added two assists in 10 games.
The Montmagny, Quebec, native has appeared in 265 career NHL games, scoring 28 goals with 74 points, split between the Blues, New York Rangers, and the Maple Leafs.
In the process of all this, Toronto also reassigned Jacob Quillan to the AHL Marlies so that
Auston Matthews and
Nicolas Roy could be activated off injured reserve ahead of Wednesday's game against Columbus, with both expected to play.
