Adam Johnson's teammates speak out for Matt Petgrave on the horrific incident
After the tragic on-ice incident that claimed the life of Adam Johnson over the weekend, a heated online debate has emerged, questioning whether the incident resulted from intent or negligence.
Westin Michaud, a teammate of Johnson with the Nottingham Panthers, was in close proximity to the incident on the bench when it occurred and offers a firsthand perspective, asserting that Matt Petgrave, the player involved, should not be blamed.
In a heartfelt statement, Michaud expressed his support for Petgrave, denouncing the hate directed towards him:
"I need to address something about the accident. We wholeheartedly stand with Matt Petgrave. The hate that Matt is receiving is terrible and completely uncalled for. I was at ice level on the bench closest to the accident, I saw both players moving fast. The unintentional clip of the Panther player's leg by the Sheffield player caused the somersault. It's clear to me his actions were unintentional, and anyone suggesting otherwise is mistaken. Let's come together and not spread unwarranted hate to someone who needs [our] support."
The incident remains under police investigation, with no definitive ruling as of yet.
