It was clear all season last year that Flames winger Jonathan Huberdeau and former head coach Darryl Sutter were rarely on the same page. With an obvious difference in playing style and coaching philosophy, it wasn't much of a shock to see Huberdeau come forward and discuss his Rocky first year in Calgary.
Huberdeau recently appeared on the Frankly Speaking podcast, where he lived up the the podcast name and spoke candidly about his experience with the Flames and Sutter, going as far to say he lost his love for the game.
"I didn't have fun last yearI think that's the first time in my career I kinda lost the passion, a little bit, to come to the rink and stuff like that.
Huberdeau was traded to the Flames in the 2022 offseason in a blockbuster that sent Matthew Tkachuck the other way to Florida. Coming off an amazing 115 point season, hopes were high for Huberdeau, who underdelivered significantly with only 55 points with the Flames. With Hunerdeau's offensive struggles in context of these quotes regarding his experience with Sutter, it seems likely that Huberdeau is heading for a rebounding year. Hopefully under a new head coach, Huberdeau can make good as the return for the Flames trading Matthew Tkachuck.
