Jacob Trouba lands big hit on Tyler Toffoli, but was it clean?
Jacob Trouba is the biggest hitter in the NHL, without question. When he's on the ice players try to keep their head on a swivel whenever possible. While most of Trouba's hits are clean, tonight he threw what is being called a questionable hit in the first period of tonight's game.
As Tyler Toffoli of the New Jersey Devils, crosses the blueline into the Rangers zone, he appears to bobble the puck. He quickly pivots and turns his back to Trouba. Trouba then follows through with a hit that he has already committed to and drives Toffoli into the board.
This play appears to fit the criteria for both a hit from behind and boarding but on the play Trouba did not receive a penalty and the Devils were furious.
The question about this play is, is this a penalty or did Toffoli just put himself in a bad spot?
