The Coyotes began their regular season earlier this week against the Devils, and with it brought the debut of the highly touted prospect Logan Cooley.
In preseason, Cooley introduced himself to the hockey world with a beautiful goal in the NHL's Global Series in Melbourne, Australia. It's still the most electrifying goal of the year, even if it was scored in preseason.
Now ahead of the season and expected to play all year with Arizona, the third overall pick from the 2022 draft shared the high expectations he has for himself.
«I'm super competitive,» he said. «I've always had high expectations for myself going to the hockey rink. I want to help this team win as many games as possible. I want to contribute to the team in any way possible, but yeah, I do want to put up big numbers, I do want to compete every night and I want to win the Calder Trophy. The reason I turned pro is because I felt ready to take the next step and I'm confident in my abilities to do those things that I want to accomplish this year.»
The Coyotes have been in the dumps for most of their existence in the NHL, making the playoffs once on a fluke 2019-20 season in the last ten years. Their roster looks slightly more competitive going into this season, but the playoffs are still far away.
The Coyotes are beginning to build a very nice young core led by Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, Barret Hayton, and now Logan Cooley. If they continue to develop like they are, it shouldn't be long before the Coyotes are back in the playoffs.for now however, the need a building and permanent home to continue as a team in the NHL.
