NHL Unveils Significant Changes To This Year's All-Star Skills Competition
The NHL is making good on its promise to elevate the significance of the All-Star game, responding to fans' concerns about its recent lackluster appeal.
In an effort to bring back excitement, the 2024 All-Star Game in Toronto will feature a revamped skills competition, a move initiated following fan dissatisfaction. The new format narrows it down to 12 NHL players competing in eight events, accumulating points for their performances. The top scorer of the night will walk away with a substantial $1 million prize.
"Instead of every all-star participating, the new format will feature just 12 NHL players battling each other in eight events. They'll receive points for where they place in those events. The individual player who accumulates the most points on the night will win $1 million." - ESPN
According to ESPN, Connor McDavid played a role in developing this competition, which includes familiar events such as Fastest Skater and Hardest Shot, along with others like Stick Handling and the NHL Obstacle Course.

3. Stick Handling
4. One Timers
5. Passing Challenge
6. Accuracy Shooting
7. The NHL Shootout (top 8 players)
