A somber incident unfolded during an amateur hockey game involving a goaltender. Reports reveal that the 62-year-old goalie was warming up for a game in New Moscow over the weekend when he collapsed on the ice, tragically passing away before medical help could reach him.

The cause of death remains uncertain. Director of SHL (Russian amateur league) Sergei Stolyarov expressed the league's condolences and commitment to support the player's family:

"What is the cause of death? We don't yet have all the information ourselves. I personally wasn't here at the game. It happened late. Goalkeeper Nikolai Kuznetsov was 62 years old. We are in touch with the hockey player's relatives. We will help them in everything."

Regrettably, the lack of medical personnel at the scene appears to have played a role in the unfortunate outcome. Stolyarov revealed that the decision to forego having medical staff at the games was made by the players themselves due to concerns about increased league expenses:

"We talked with the teams before the season. They refused to take ambulances because it would make the championship more expensive. We will gather the division council. We are definitely in favor of ambulances being present at matches."

Although paramedics eventually arrived and attempted to revive the goaltender, their efforts were in vain. This marks the second death of an amateur player in Russia this month, with another 60-year-old player passing away under similar circumstances a few weeks ago.
