Bryan Rust's illegal head hit on Brock Boeser drags the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks back into the same ugly spotlight.

The play happened at the final buzzer of Pittsburgh's 3-2 win in Vancouver, with the league logging it at 20:00 of the third period.
The NHL said Rust was facing discipline for an illegal check to the head, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
Now that the hearing ended, Rust will be suspended for three games.
Boeser was placed on injured reserve Monday, which tells you Vancouver is bracing for missed games.
This is why Canucks fans saw red immediately, and why Penguins fans are stuck defending a play that is hard to defend.
On the ice, the detail that matters is the contact point, because head contact is the line Player Safety keeps coming back to.
Rust isn't a passenger in Pittsburgh's offense this year either, sitting at 18-21-39 in 47 games, so this suspension swings real minutes.

Bryan Rust left Vancouver Canucks wanting justice

Canucks supporters want consistency from Player Safety, and Penguins supporters want context, but nobody feels "good" about how this ended.
For Vancouver, losing Boeser matters because he's at 12-13-25 in 50 games, and the lineup already feels thin when goals dry up.
For Pittsburgh, it forces a quick reshuffle in the top-six and on the man advantage, where Rust's pace and net reads actually translate.
With this multi-game ban now in effect, the Penguins could pay in points.
Either way, the next Vancouver-Pittsburgh meeting just got a lot hotter, and both rooms know it.
