Former Penguin from the Erik Karlsson blockbuster trade, Dillon Hamaliuk, has signed with the Edmonton Oilers organization after playing overseas in Europe.
This happened on Aug. 6, 2023, when the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired three-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks in a three-team deal that involved a staggering 12 players.
We are now two years later, and one of the players acquired by the Penguins in that trade has just signed with a different organization in the Western Conference.
On Tuesday, forward Dillon Hamaliuk signed with the Fort Wayne Komets, which is the ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, one of Canada's Western teams.
Dillon Hamaliuk played in both North America and Europe last season
During the 2024-25 season, the 24-year-old Dillon Hamaliuk suited up for both Nove Zamky Mikron HC in Slovakia and in North America as well for the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, which is the affiliate of the St. Louis Blues.
In his 42 total games, he totaled eight goals, 17 points, and 44 penalty minutes.
Drafted 55th overall by the Sharks in 2019, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward spent the entire 2023-24 season in the Penguins' organization.
In 35 games with the Wheeling Nailers, which is Pittsburgh's ECHL affiliate, he scored 15 goals and finished with 39 points. He also put up one point in eight AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Hamaliuk won a WHL championship with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 2017, which is a nice Trophy to add to his career accomplishments.
