Marc Andre Fleury Makes Big Decision Following Wild Elimination
Marc-Andre Fleury's NHL career has come to an end, but that doesn't mean he's done on the ice, as he'll now join Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship.
Now, we've had another shock revelation, as former Sidney Crosby teammate Marc-Andre Fleury has committed to playing at the tournament and representing Canada for one final time.
This comes after he has officially played his final game at the NHL level following the Minnesota Wild's elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the 40-year old clearly not ready to give it up just yet.
While he's been in the NHL since way back in 2003, Fleury has never competed at the IIHF World Championship despite being one of Canada's best goaltenders in that time, but now, the Quebec native will don the iconic Maple Leaf for one final time in his career.
Team Canada's roster isn't lacking in talent, with the likes of
Adam Fantilli,
Macklin Celebrini and other young names leading the way before the addition of Crosby/MacKinnon, but in net, it's safe to say that a veteran like Fleury was desperately needed as Canada chase another gold medal.
It's unclear just how much Fleury will play at the tournament, but given the wealth of experience and the burst of energy he'll bring to the locker room, this is a brilliant addition, and after his NHL career came to an end, there's no better way to send him off than with a gold medal representing Team Canada.
