Following their elimination by the Boston Bruins in the opening round of the playoffs earlier this month, the Toronto Maple Leafs have changed head coaches, and rumors about their roster for the upcoming season have gone wild. Although there have been a lot of names thrown around regarding who would be fired or resigned, the biggest topic of conversation in circles has been whether or not forward Mitch Marner will be wearing a new sweater the next season.
The Maple Leafs have not contacted any clubs, according to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, therefore the agency of Mitch Marner has not been requested to compile a list of teams that might be involved in a deal.
Even though rumors over the past several days have placed Marner's comeback at only 5%, this is not unprecedented, as irritating as it may be to hear for Leafs Nation. Since the Stanley Cup playoffs are still ongoing and it is almost the end of May, if a trade were to take place, it is most likely to happen in late June, closer to the NHL draft.
Even if Marner is moved is a matter of some debate, but the Toronto fan base is the impatient bunch in the National Hockey League. If they think a change is necessary, they want it completed right away. However, that is not a reasonable assumption in the real world.
